Naloxone Infusion for the Prevention of Neuraxial Opioid Induced Pruritus: A Double-Blind, Prospective, Randomized, Controlled Study in Children

 

This study will help us to find out if naloxone will reduce the number of children experiencing itchiness related to morphine when having an epidural anesthesia.

Who can participate in this study?

  • In order to participate in the study, your child must be aged 5–16 years old and be prescribed an epidural following their operation. Your anesthesiologist will determine whether your chlid is eligible.

Who should not participate in this study?

  • Children with allergies to opioid or anti-inflammatory pain medications or those already receiving opioid pain medication should not participate. Children who have been diagnosed with neurological and/or psychiatric conditions will not be included. Children who have existing itching not related to opioids should not participate. Also, if your child remain on a breathing machine following surgery or have been involved in any investigational drug trials within the previous month, your child should not participate.
